Rega Planar 3 Stereo Turntable — Gloss Black, No Cartridge, No Dust Cover

IMG_3953.jpeg

Rega Research Ltd. · 2016–present (current production model) · Southend-on-Sea, Essex, United Kingdom

Condition: MINT — eBay listing shows 'In stock' language consistent with an authorized-dealer new-unit listing. Power adapter visible resting on platter in the product photo, which is atypical of a pristine new dealer image — condition cannot be fully confirmed without direct inspection. Treating as new/near-new pending clarification.

Attribution: CONFIRMED — The 'p3 planar three' logo is clearly legible on the plinth. The RB330 tonearm profile, 12mm glass platter, and gloss black laminated plinth are all visually consistent with the current-generation Rega Planar 3 (2016–present). Attribution is unambiguous.

Used Rega Planar 3 (2016+, no cartridge, no dust cover) in good-to-excellent condition realistically trades in the $450–$700 range on peer-to-peer and specialist resale platforms; new units are available from authorized dealers for $995–$1,125 with full warranty.

The Piece

The Rega Planar 3 is one of the most enduring designs in consumer audio — the 'three' lineage dates to 1977 and the current iteration, introduced in 2016, represents the most comprehensive re-engineering the platform has ever received. The 2016+ model introduces the RB330 tonearm (developed using 3D CAD and incorporating a new bearing housing), a 12mm Optiwhite float glass platter, and a stiffer acrylic-laminated plinth reinforced by dual phenolic resin braces. What Hi-Fi? awarded it Product of the Year every year from 2016 through 2021, and Stereophile has listed it as a Class C Recommended Component.

The gloss black variant shown here is the base model configuration: no factory-fitted cartridge and no dust cover (the Rega dust cover is sold separately, typically $100–$150). The RB330 tonearm is designed for low-compliance moving-magnet cartridges and is compatible with the full range of Rega's Nd and Elys/Exact cartridge lineup. The Neo turntable power supply is also sold separately (approximately $345 retail) and represents a meaningful sonic upgrade.

One important note on the listing: Google Shopping's data feed incorrectly attributes this product to 'Pro-Ject,' a competing Austrian turntable brand. This is a known metadata indexing error and has no bearing on the product's authenticity, which is confirmed by the 'p3 planar three' script logo, tonearm geometry, and plinth design visible in the product photograph.
